Hard skin from the pumpkin is easier to cut if it already has cracks
Fall time is pumpkin time. Whether in the soup, in the casserole or as a vegetable side dish - pumpkin is extremely popular this season. A lot of strength is often required to shred its hard shell. Walburga Loock from the Bavarian Women's Association tells the dpa news agency a few tricks on how pumpkin lovers can get their hands on the tasty pumpkin meat without much effort.
Place the pumpkin in the oven for 30 to 60 minutes at 180 degrees. There are pumpkin varieties in which the skin is less firm and edible. This includes the Hokkaido pumpkin. However, particularly hard pumpkins must be peeled. Walburga Loock advises that the pumpkin be dropped on the ground before being crushed. In this way, it either shatters into large pieces or cracks in the shell, so that the pumpkin is easier to cut up. "Then core the pieces and put them in the oven," advises the expert. After half an hour to a full hour at 180 degrees in the oven, the pumpkin meat can be easily removed from the skin.
Pumpkin - the remedy from nature Pumpkin not only tastes good, it also contains many health-promoting substances such as valuable fatty acids, vitamin E and beta-carotene, which are supposed to protect against cancer in a related form. In addition, pumpkin seed oil contains so-called phytosterols, which act as opponents to the body's own dihydrotestosterone. The hormone plays an essential role in the development of prostate enlargement, which affects about 60 percent of all men over 50 years of age. In addition, the ingredients of the oil are said to strengthen the bladder. (ag)
